02E / DQ250 — Wet Twin-Clutch System
Clutch assembly or friction plates? The replacement scope matters.

For the 02E / DQ250 six-speed wet dual-clutch gearbox, a friction plate kit is not a direct substitute for a complete twin-clutch assembly. Audi's technical documentation warns against dismantling its factory-matched clutch plates. Individual friction parts may be considered for specialist rebuilding only where the exact specifications, appropriate procedures and inspection requirements are established.

Clutch slip, drive-away shudder or an irregular gearshift does not, by itself, establish which clutch component requires replacement.

Factory replacement
Follow the applicable OEM repair procedure for the complete twin-clutch assembly.
Specialist rebuilding
Consider individual friction components only when the correct clutch version, part specifications and validated rebuilding procedure are available.
Unconfirmed fault
Complete the appropriate diagnosis before selecting either a clutch assembly or friction plate kit.
Factory Assembly / Technical Evidence

Why Audi warns against dismantling the original 02E twin clutch

The restriction concerns the original factory-matched clutch plate assembly, not simply the availability of replacement friction material.

Audi Self-Study Programme 386 explains that the lined friction plates and steel plates within the 02E twin clutch are aligned and installed in matched groups during manufacture.

This arrangement supports more uniform torque transfer during clutch engagement and helps prevent drive-away shudder. The original relative positions of these plates are not individually marked.

  • The factory-matched plate arrangement is part of the original assembly.
  • Removing the driving disc or retaining clip can allow the K1 and K2 clutch plates to leave their carriers.
  • Once that arrangement is lost, the plates cannot reliably be returned to their original factory positions.
  • Incorrect reassembly may result in drive-away shudder.
Clutch Architecture

K1 and K2 have different functions — their internal parts are not automatically interchangeable

The 02E / DQ250 contains two hydraulically controlled wet multi-plate clutches. Each clutch connects engine torque to a different input shaft and gear group. This functional difference must be considered when identifying internal clutch components.

K1

Outer clutch

1 3 5 R
Input shaft 1 — odd forward gears and reverse in the 02E arrangement described by Audi SSP 386.
K2

Inner clutch

2 4 6
Input shaft 2 — even forward gears.

Same gearbox family does not mean identical clutch plates.

K1 is the larger, outer clutch; K2 is positioned inside it. They operate through different input-shaft paths.

A part advertised simply as a "DQ250 clutch plate" should not be assumed to fit both positions.

Any claimed interchangeability must be established from the actual component specification and applicable part references.

Repair Scope

When is a complete clutch assembly required, and when can individual friction parts be considered?

The correct purchasing decision follows the confirmed repair method, not the availability of a cheaper or smaller replacement component.

Confirmed condition Appropriate sourcing direction
The applicable OEM repair procedure specifies replacement of the twin-clutch assembly. Source the correct complete clutch assembly and follow the relevant installation and adaptation requirements.
Factory plate pairing has been lost and no validated rebuilding method is available. Do not assume that purchasing replacement friction plates will restore the original assembly.
A specialist rebuilder has identified the exact clutch version and has appropriate component data, procedures and inspection capability. Individual friction plates or related rebuild components may be assessed against the confirmed repair scope.
The car shows shudder, slip or irregular shifts, but the cause has not been confirmed. Diagnose the mechanical, hydraulic and control systems before ordering clutch parts.

02E Gearbox Friction Plate Kit

Super5 lists this product as a friction plate / clutch plate kit for selected applications within the 02E / DQ250 six-speed DSG gearbox family.

It is a parts-level product for professional clutch-pack rebuilding requirements, not a complete factory twin-clutch assembly.

Product 02E Gearbox Friction Plate Kit
Gearbox family 02E / DQ250
Part category Friction Plate / Clutch Plate Kit
Application Selected Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda and SEAT configurations
Repair scope Specialist clutch-pack rebuilding

The current public product record does not specify the full K1/K2 plate allocation, individual plate thicknesses or complete kit contents. These details must be confirmed for the exact order.

Parts Identification

Plate quantity alone cannot confirm a suitable DQ250 rebuilding kit

For a parts-level clutch rebuild, the ordered components must correspond to the specific clutch pack and repair method. A matching total plate count does not prove that every friction plate and mating steel plate has the correct dimensions or specifications.

Component data for a professional parts order
Gearbox identity Exact 02E / DQ250 version and identification code
Clutch position K1, K2 or the specifically defined replacement set
Original reference OE number, kit reference or original component identification
Plate specification Confirmed quantities, dimensions and applicable material specifications
Included components Friction plates, steel plates and any other separately required components

A parts kit should be evaluated against the actual repair scope rather than its category name. This distinction also applies when comparing overhaul, master and seal kit contents .

Professional Sourcing

Confirm the repair method before ordering the clutch components

For an OEM-style replacement, source the correct complete twin-clutch assembly according to the applicable repair instructions. For a specialist parts-level rebuild, confirm the clutch version and individual components against a documented rebuilding procedure.

For a Super5 02E friction plate inquiry, provide the gearbox identification, original part references or photographs, required components, quantity and destination country. If the repair scope is still uncertain, the diagnosis and repair method should be established by a qualified gearbox specialist first.
